SPAG Announces Free SPAG PACK 001 with Six Unofficial Bass Music Flips

The artist formerly known as Spag Heddy returns to the remix culture that helped build his career with six free flips and bootlegs arriving September 2 on SoundCloud.

SPAG is returning to the foundations of his career with SPAG PACK 001, a collection of six unofficial remixes and bootlegs that will be released for free on SoundCloud on September 2.

The concept is straightforward: tracks SPAG loves, rebuilt in his own style and handed directly to the fans who have followed his music throughout his career. For an artist whose early rise was closely connected to flips and remixes, the free pack also represents a way of giving something back to the community that helped establish his name.

“Dubstep gave me a career, and flips & remixes were a huge part of that journey. I've spent years taking tracks I love and turning them into something of my own. Now I want to give some of that energy back to the community that made this whole thing possible. Free flips & remixes.” — SPAG

The release arrives during a significant year for Mischa Reining, who spent more than a decade performing and releasing music as Spag Heddy before adopting the shorter SPAG name earlier this year.

The change was introduced with Messiah in March, followed by the THIS IS: SPAG EP in May. Rather than representing a complete break with his previous work, the new project has sharpened the characteristics that have always been at the centre of his music.

The playful, colourful aesthetic associated with Spag Heddy has given way to something darker and more stripped back. SPAG's current sound leans into grit, distortion and raw energy, while the visual identity has been reduced to black, white and flashes of red through cutout collage and mixed-media artwork.

Those visuals draw from punk and skate culture, favouring texture and imperfection over the cartoon-driven imagery of his previous era. Musically, the direction is similarly focused, with heavier and more uncompromising bass production at its core.

SPAG PACK 001 connects that new chapter with an older part of Reining's creative process. Long before the SPAG project, flips and unofficial remixes were an important part of how he developed his sound and reached audiences.

Since 2011, Reining has built an international reputation around hard-hitting bass music, extensive touring and a catalogue that has earned support from artists including Skrillex, Excision, Subtronics and NGHTMRE. His career has also included official remixes for The Chainsmokers, Krewella and SLANDER, alongside major touring and support appearances with Zomboy, Flux Pavilion, Excision and Zeds Dead.

Now, SPAG PACK 001 takes that history back to its simplest form: making music from records he enjoys and sharing the results without a price tag.

The six-track pack will be available to download for free via SoundCloud from September 2, giving fans another entry point into the darker, more focused direction of the SPAG project while reconnecting with the remix culture that helped shape Reining's career in the first place.
