Jaden Bojsen makes his Insomniac Records debut with "Erica" — and it's pure late-night tech-house
Rubbery basslines, sparse percussion, and a spoken-word vocal instead of a hook: the LA-based artist's continued shift from pop frontman to dance music producer keeps gaining momentum.
Some debuts are loud announcements. "Erica" is the opposite — a stripped-back, late-night tech-house cut that earns its place through restraint rather than spectacle, and that restraint is exactly what makes it land. The track marks Jaden Bojsen's first release on Insomniac Records, arriving via the label's tech-house imprint Gotta Move, and it's built on rubbery basslines, sparse percussion, and squelchy synth textures, with a spoken-word-style vocal carrying the topline in place of a sung hook. It's a record that sits comfortably between tech-house, house, and a harder, urban-leaning edge, with a groove that never settles into one shape for too long — constantly shifting and building rather than looping in place. This is music made for the darker, later end of a set, where rhythm and attitude do the work that melody might do earlier in the night. For an artist whose career began in pop, the choice to lean this hard into texture and groove over hooks says a lot about where Jaden's instincts currently sit.
"My new song 'ERICA' is a fun, energetic House track that feels fresh, exciting, and unlike anything I've released before. While producing it, we had an amazing time in the studio because the vibe was so new and inspiring, yet it still kept that cool, signature energy. It's the kind of record I can easily imagine DJs everywhere playing, bringing people together on dance floors around the world." — Jaden Bojsen
"Erica" continues a trajectory that has been building steadily. It follows Jaden's recent collaboration with David Guetta and his solo single "Lighthouse," both clear markers of an artist increasingly at home in dance music after years fronting US boy band New District, with whom he won the Golden Theme 2016 award for most popular boy band from BRAVO magazine. Jaden has also picked up individual recognition at a young age, including a US Teen Choice Award, and has played some of the best nightclubs and festivals across Europe, Asia, and the US, including Ultra Music Festival in Miami. He produces most of his music from his home base in Los Angeles, and his growing social media presence continues to draw attention from audiences well beyond the dance music world. Away from the studio, he finds his balance surfing in Malibu — but as a performer, songwriter, and producer with a genuinely rare range of skills, music remains, in his own words, a way of life. "Erica" is the latest proof of that, and a strong signal of where Jaden Bojsen's sound is headed next.
