JVNA Returns to Her Roots with Gravity, the First Taste of Violet Genesis

Written, sung and produced entirely by JVNA, the new melodic bass single introduces an EP that revisits the hopeful, ethereal sound at the foundation of her music.

JVNA is returning to the sound that first defined her with Gravity, a new melodic bass single and the first glimpse of her forthcoming EP, Violet Genesis.

Built entirely around her own voice and production, Gravity explores what it means to remain beside someone when their world is falling apart. Rather than approaching that idea with an oversized emotional payoff, JVNA allows the track to develop gradually, keeping the vocal intimate as cinematic production and heavier sound design build around it.

The result carries weight without losing the sense of hope at the centre of the song.

“Gravity is about being there for someone throughout their dark times. Standing by someone's side when their world feels like it's falling apart... it's about pulling someone out of their heaviest moments and wanting to show them hope and joy again.” — JVNA

As with much of her catalogue, JVNA handles the creative process herself, writing, singing and producing the record while maintaining control over its release. That independence has become an important part of her identity, allowing her music to move between melodic bass, electronic pop and cinematic composition without being tied to a single formula.

Those different worlds meet naturally on Gravity. Heavy electronic sound design sits alongside an ethereal vocal performance, while influences from anime, video games and cinematic scoring remain underneath the production.

The same ideas will extend into Violet Genesis, due next month. JVNA describes the EP as a return to her original sound: hopeful, nostalgic and ethereal, but rebuilt through the songwriting, vocal and production skills she has developed during the years since establishing herself.

For the American-Taiwanese artist, that makes the project less of a step backwards than a chance to revisit her beginnings from a different perspective.

Born in Los Angeles to Taiwanese parents, JVNA began studying classical piano at the age of six. She later attended the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, where her studies expanded into film and game scoring — disciplines that would become increasingly important to the cinematic character of her electronic productions.

Anime and gaming culture also played a significant role in her early development as an artist. Her remixes began attracting attention online, while the community surrounding her Twitch streams helped support the next stage of her career. Fans eventually crowdfunded the music video for I'm With You, a self-directed tribute to her late father.

That combination of personal storytelling and electronic production continued through her 2021 debut album, Hope In Chaos, which explored loss and resilience before leading into a North American tour.

Her second album, Play With You, followed in 2023 and moved into darker territory, exploring themes of empowerment and reclaiming personal strength. The years since have given JVNA space to experiment with different sides of her musical identity.

Violet Genesis now brings that journey back toward its starting point.

Rather than simply recreating her earlier material, the forthcoming EP looks to reconnect with the emotional and sonic qualities that initially shaped JVNA's music while applying everything she has learned since. Gravity offers the first indication of that evolution: melodic bass with cinematic scale, an intimate vocal at its centre and hope emerging from something considerably heavier.
